A DSLR for myself

I bought myself a DSLR last week, a Pentax K200D with Pentax 18-55mm DA Kit lenses. I decided on the purchase after saving up my wages from doing part time work at the University. I decided against buying the more well known and popular brands such as Canon or Nikon as I felt as a beginner in serious photography, its better off to start with something moderate. Its not that I have anything against the popular brands and certainly not that the K200D is a low end model. Its just the perfect bargain for the perfect price. The ability to use nearly every lenses Pentax ever created also moot the fact.

The total spent for the camera, some rechargable batteries with the recharger, a 4GB SDHC card and a Lowepro bag is around $903.10. The amount is quite acceptable as compared to buying the more popular DSLR models. Here’s some shots of the camera itself.

Playing around with the camera reinforced a thought about photography or the knowledge that I thought I have; I know shit about proper photography. This is why the camera will be a good tool for me to improve myself. Here’s the selection of pictures I took for the K200D’s test run.

I am doing my masters dissertation this semester. This involves a hell lot of technical readings and development time on the project. The topic is modifying SQLify, a web based SQL assesment and teaching tool. Right now, I am concentrating on one of the main part of the thesis, user interface design. Its really mind opening to understand that interface design, although partly related to creativity, involves a lot of technical assessment.

Going to spend the day browsing through the heap of journal and technical readings I’ve printed off the library’s database. If all goes well, I’ll tinker more on the UI of the site.

What do we all potray as ourselves? The term “you are who you are” evokes insightful look on how we realistically are we. For me, to some people who I discussed it with, potray my self view as a third person within. Its not the same as having split personality. Far from that. Its more like being a narrator inside. I could literally go on for minutes narrating myself to..well me. No this is not signs that I’ve gone loco. I am often fascinated by this fact of human mentality. Wish I could gather more details about it

It won’t come as a suprise, that after being here in Toowoomba for nearly 3 years, I look forward to finish up and move on. I don’t mind the quiet(dead) lifestyle but I know I need to move to more opportune places to get a career started. The final league of this journey won’t be easy at all. Its a heavy laden semester.

Hiroe-san, my good friend finally got a job after months of frustrating and wasteful efforts. She’ll be moving to Perth soon. I guess this year will be gradually be lonely for me as friends are moving on or finishing studies. Heck, I’m starting to imagining myself finishing too. The combined realisation of responsibilities and changes to come are maddening..
